Power Yoga Buffalo Main St.

Mental Health Awareness & Suicide Prevention

On September 25, 2021 we are teaming up with Independent Health and Mental Health Advocates of WNY for the 1st annual Yogathon for Suicide Awareness and Prevention.

So many of us are touched by mental illness in our own families and communities. Through awareness, education, prevention, early intervention programs and supportive services, Mental Health Advocates(MHA) of WNY supports mental health and wellness for adults, families and children.

This event is an opportunity to raise awareness and share the tools of yoga that can directly support mental health and wellness. Unroll your mat with us and make the commitment to take a stand for yourself and for others.

Mind. Body. Community.

It's all connected.

Through the practice of yoga we are reminded of our own resilience and strength.

There is undoubtedly a strong connection between mind and body. Based on that connection, we are all on a fluid spectrum of surviving. Yoga breathing techniques and movements bring us into direct awareness of our mind and body. Over time, the practices of yoga can increase our body and brain’s ability to slow down and regroup in moments of high stress. In training ourselves to slow down, we begin to restore our power of choice on and off the mat.

Coming together to practice reminds us we are not alone. Without even saying a word, you can feel the support of those around you as everyone moves and breathes at their own pace. Practicing as a community gives us a sense of being a part of something bigger, beyond our immediate fears and struggles.

3 Different Class Options

In person and livestream options available.

There are 3 class options for both in person and livestream. All three classes will be different. You can register for one, two or all three! We have carefully sequenced the classes to demonstrate how yoga supports your mind and body’s ability to move from sympathetic(action oriented, fight or flight) to parasympathetic(restoration oriented, rest and restore). When we learn to move between these two states of being in a healthy way, we go from surviving to thriving.

2pm PYBasics

In this class we will take things slow and break down poses as needed. ALL levels welcome! The sequence we teach is called Journey Into Power. By bringing your mind, movement and breath together in this sequence, you discover the power and vitality within. The room will be warm and we welcome everyone to move at their own pace. Our teachers will support you with intentional cueing that keeps you connected to your body and breath throughout class. Please bring a mat, towel, and water.

3pm PYB45

This is a 45minute class. We recommend this class for those who participated in the 2pm Basics right before or for those who have a little bit of yoga experience. The class will move at a slightly quicker pace than the basics giving you the perfect balance of breath and flow. You are always invited to move at your own pace! Please bring a mat, towel, and water.

4pm PYBRestored

The final class of the day will be the ultimate slow down for your body and mind. We recommend this class for anyone who is just craving some deep stretching and relaxation. The room will be warm but most of our work will be down on the floor. Please bring a mat, towel(for joint support), and water.

Answers to Your Questions

If you’re practicing in person we recommend you bring a towel, either full size or at least a hand towel, as well as plenty of water!

The room is heated and you will sweat!

The room is around 90 degrees. We manage the humidity the best we can but yes, it is a heated class. Please come well hydrated.

  • Should I eat before?

The class will be heated and there is a good amount of up and down in the beginning of the Basics and PYB45. You know your body best.
