Move Together. Stand Together.

Raising awareness for suicide prevention.

Stand for Yourself and Others.

On September 25, 2021 we are teaming up with Independent Health and Mental Health Advocates of WNY for the 1st annual Yogathon for Suicide Awareness and Prevention.

So many of us are touched by mental illness in our own families and communities. Through awareness, education, prevention, early intervention programs and supportive services, Mental Health Advocates(MHA) of WNY supports mental health and wellness for adults, families and children in Western New York.

This event is an opportunity to raise awareness and share the tools of yoga that can directly support mental health and wellness. Unroll your mat with us and make the commitment to take a stand for yourself and for others.

Mind. Body. Community.

It is all connected.

There is undoubtedly a strong connection between mind and body and based on that connection, we are all on a fluid spectrum of surviving. Yoga breathing techniques and movements bring us into direct awareness of our mind and body. Through specific movements, breathing, and mindfulness we can actually stimulate the Vagus Nerve and over time increase our body and brain’s ability to slow down and regroup in moments of high stress. In training ourselves to slow down, yoga can help us begin to restore our power of choice on and off the mat.

Coming together to practice reminds us we are not alone. Without even saying a word, you can feel the support of those around you as everyone moves and breathes in the same space, at their own pace. Practicing as a community gives us a sense of being a part of something bigger. It can give us perspective and allow us to see a bigger picture, beyond our immediate fears and struggles. Ultimately, the combination of breath, mindful movement and community has the power to remind us of our own resilience, strength and how important our unique existence is in this world.

3 Different Class Options

In person and livestream options available.

There are 3 class options for both in person and livestream. We will livestream the in person classes via Zoom so everyone can practice together! All three classes will be different. You can register for one, two or all three! We have carefully sequenced the classes to demonstrate how yoga supports your mind and body’s ability to move from sympathetic(action oriented, fight or flight) to parasympathetic(restoration oriented, rest and restore). When we learn to move between these two states of being in a healthy way, we go from surviving to thriving.

2pm In Person & Livestream: PYBasics

The 2pm class is a 45min Power Yoga Basics class. We will take things slow and break down poses as needed. ALL levels welcome! The sequence we teach is called Journey Into Power. By bringing your mind, movement and breath together in this sequence, you discover the power and vitality within. The room will be warm and we welcome everyone to move at their own pace. Our teachers will support you with intentional cueing that keeps you connected to your body and breath throughout class. Please bring a mat, towel, and water.

3pm In Person & Livestream: PYB45

The 3pm class will be a PYB 45 class. This is a 45minute class. We recommend this class for those who participated in the 2pm Basics right before or for those who have at least a little bit of yoga experience. The class will move at a slightly quicker pace than the basics with less explanation of poses, giving you the perfect balance of breath and flow. You are always invited to move at your own pace! Please bring a mat, towel, and water.

4pm In Person & Livestream: PYBRestored

The final class of the day will be the ultimate slow down for your body and mind. We recommend this class for those who participated in the other Yogathon classes OR anyone who is just craving some deep stretching and relaxation. The room will be warm but we will not be moving up and down as much as we will in the other classes. Please bring a mat, towel(for joint support), and water.

Answers to Your Questions

  • Do I need to bring my own mat?

Yes! We always recommend you bring your own mat. Our mat rentals are extremely limited.

  • What else should I bring?

If you’re practicing in person we recommend you bring a towel, either full size or at least a hand towel, as well as plenty of water!

The room is heated and you will sweat!

  • Where are you located?

If you are joining us in person you will come to 4575 Main St, Snyder, 14226. We are above Buffalo OBGYN.

  • Where should I park?

You can park anywhere in the Buffalo OBGYN parking lot because the other businesses are closed during these classes.

  • What if I'm new?

No problem! Let us know when you arrive and we will keep an eye out for you during class!

  • How hot is it?

The room is around 90 degrees. We manage the humidity the best we can but yes, it is a heated class. Please come well hydrated.

  • Should I eat before?

The class will be heated and there is a good amount of up and down in the beginning of the Basics and PYB45. You know your body best. We do suggest you have good healthy nutrients in your system about an hour before class so you have energy but would not recommend a large or heavy meal right before class, especially if this is your first time. You know your body best. What would you eat before any exercise? Go with that!
