Congratulations on taking your first step on this amazing journey! Yoga, like any form of exercise takes practice. You can’t expect to know everything immediately, so be patient with yourself. Listening to your body and resting when you feel fatigued are vital. You will be amazed at how quickly you build strength, flexibility and endurance. Power Vinyasa is a physical form of yoga and a set of postures that flow from one to another. Because of this, you can expect weight loss, toned muscles and improved cardiovascular stamina.
Can beginners attend classes?
Beginners are always welcome to attend any All Levels classes. The most important thing to remember is to listen to your body, go at your own pace and take modifications instructed by teachers.
In addition, Power Yoga Basics classes are offered several days a week. They are the same yoga flow, with emphasis on foundation and alignment. We suggest these classes for those who are new to yoga and exercise in general.
How often should I practice yoga?
Practicing Power Yoga 2-3 days a week (especially when first learning) will build a strong foundation and knowledge of the flow and alignment, as well as increased strength and flexibility. For truly life changing physical, mental and spiritual benefits, practicing yoga 4-6 days per week is optimal. The results will amaze you!
What should I wear to practice yoga?
Wear whatever fitness clothing you are most comfortable sweating in. Because the room is heated to 90 degrees, a tank top or short sleeved shirt and pants or shorts are recommended. No footwear is needed. We also recommend that you bring plenty of water and a towel to class.
Why is the room heated? How hot is it?
The room is heated to 90 degrees. Heating the room during yoga has several benefits…
- Increased heart rate (cardiovascular workout) and calorie burn (estimated 500-1000 calories per class)
- Increased flexibility, with less risk of injury
- Sweating promotes detoxification and elimination through the skin, which is the body’s largest elimination organ
Because the room is heated, you must be hydrated BEFORE class. A good habit is to drink 1 Liter of water before class, and sip water in class whenever you feel thirsty. If you feel dizzy or nauseated, resting poses are recommended.
What should I bring to class when practicing yoga?
Bring a mat, water and a towel. Mats are available to rent and water is available for purchase.
Can I practice yoga if I’m not flexible?
It doesn’t matter how flexible you are AT ALL! Flexibility is a natural side effect of a regular yoga practice. Be patient and accept where you are and know that it will change.
Can I eat before a yoga class?
You should try to eat a couple of hours before class so that the stomach is fairly empty. If this isn’t possible eat a piece of fruit or a light snack that will give you a boost without feeling full.
